Effective March 10 at 12 noon, the City of San Juan Bautista began operating in a state of emergency in response to flooding March 10, 2023.  The City has received another several inches of rain, with three more storms predicted in the next week to ten-days.

This declaration of a local state of emergency is made pursuant to City Code 5-33-040 (A) and will support the City’s on-going response to the winter weather by allowing the City to quickly retain contractors to support its maintenance staff.

Thus far, due to flooding, the City has evacuated 157 residents, closed, cleaned and re-opened San Juan Highway and the Alameda at Highway 156 and managed to operate its wastewater treatment plant at full capacity for extended periods of time to equalize its treatment ponds and prevent overflows. Preparations for this weekend continues into the evening.  Hotel rooms have been reserved for the evacuees in need of housing overnight.
