Community Service Message

Residents of San Juan Bautista,

There have been multiple vehicle burglaries throughout the city in recent months. Apparently the suspects are looking for items inside vehicles that are small and simple to quickly carry away, i.e., laptop computers, purses and briefcases. They smash out a window and remove the item of value. The victim vehicles have been parked in a variety of locations: car ports, driveways and on the street in front of residences. Most of the thefts have occurred between the hours of 12 midnight and 3 am, but some have occurred during the daytime.

Here are several ways to help prevent these types of thefts:

Remember to remove any items of value from inside your vehicle or lock them in the trunk.

If you see anyone suspicious looking into vehicles in your neighborhood, please report them to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Department, (831) 636-4080 or if you witness a subject breaking into a vehicle, call 911.

Remember it is very important to get a clear description of the suspicious subject, i.e.… clothing description, height, weight, hair color and last known direction of travel.

Thank you for your help

Sincerely,

Deputy Marc Williams
San Benito County Sheriff's Department
San Juan Bautista sub-station
