Staff Present: Jan McClintock, City Manager; Matthew Sundt, City Planner; and Trish Paetz, City Clerk.
Georgeanne Gularte commented that she wanted to plant herbs and mustard around the Jim Jack cabin, and reminded everyone that Peak Day would be April 26th.
A. 318 Third Street (Land Office; currently Ponzini Insulation)
Property owner Sandy Ponzini appeared before the Board with drawings of proposed improvements to the property at 318 Third Street. Her proposes is to replace the old foundation, replace the small add-on at the rear of the building with a new add-on that has the same roof line, fix the front of the building that is leaning, and repaint.
Chairperson Guibert suggested checking with the Secretary of the Interior, and getting advice from a historical architect.
A. Approve Affidavit of Posting Agenda
B. Approval of Minutes for February 12, 2008 Historic Resources Board Meeting
Board Member Garza pointed out some typographical errors in the minutes. A motion was made by Board Member Garza and seconded by Board Member Spencer to approve all items on the consent agenda with changes to the minutes as noted. The motion passed 4-0-0-1.
A. Historic District Signage
Chairperson Guibert asked staff if downtown street light poles could be used to post signs, and City Manager McClintock replied that it would be problematic.
B. Status and Plans for Rehabilitations of Condemned Buildings in the Historic Downtown
Chairperson Guibert asked staff if any other property owners had come forward with proposals, and City Manager McClintock replied, no.
C and D. 2007 California Historic Building Code, Effective 1/1/08.

E. Discuss Possibility of Implementing Design Charette Suggestion to Make Mariposa Street Between Second and Third Streets a Pedestrian Promenade
Chairperson Guibert commented, and staff agreed, that parking in San Juan Bautista is not a problem at this point, and to lose 7 or 8 parking spaces would not be an issue.
During public comment Tony Boch asked how this could effect Dante Bains’ proposal from some time ago, and City Manager McClintock stated she and Mr. Bains have discussed the possibility of closing the street and he did not have a problem with the idea.
Chairperson Guibert asked staff what would hold up the process, and City Manager McClintock replied, money.

Chairman Guibert reminded Board members of an upcoming Historic Preservation Workshop in San Mateo.
B. City Manager
Nothing to add.
C. City Planner
City Planner Sundt presented a Historic Register Update stating that the deadline had been met, the next report would need to be submitted to SHPPO by May 20, 2008.

A motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:32 p.m. passed unanimously.
